Cherry Valley Off-Grid House

Architect: Solares Architecture
Completion Date: 2019

This traditionally styled but fully modern home sits on a wooded lot about 500 meters beyond the utility grid. Carefully designed and built for energy conservation, this high-performance house exceeds passive house standards for air tightness.

Features: Custom built-in cabinetry, a great room with a western cedar vaulted ceiling and fieldstone fireplace, and a private bedroom wing. Extras include a dog bath and a wood fired sauna.

Off-Grid Services: Electrical service is provided by a rooftop PV array and battery storage. A condensing gas boiler provides hydronic in-floor heat and an indirect water heater provides domestic hot water.
