Dog Lake House

Architect: Jennifer Davis
Completion Date: 2018

Carved into the rock above Dog Lake, Ontario, this high-performance home blends with its rugged environment, reflects its owner’s playful sense of humour, and is one of the most airtight homes we’ve ever built.

Features: 24-foot vaulted ceilings, bridge to a loft, a hidden staircase, invisible “Murphy door”, and a raised deck with a glassed-in exterior pavilion.

Efficiency: Airtight rating of 0.23 ACH@50kp, R40-rated walls, R70-rated roof, and triple-glazed windows and doors. Heat is provided by two water source heat pumps—one supplying hydronic heat for the basement slab; the other heating and cooling via an air handler.
